Johnny Depp attempts the impossible to outshine Gene Wilder
Published on November 20, 2004 By Grim Xiozan In Misc
Yesterday when I went to see the new Pixar movie, the Incredibles, (which if you like Pixar movies this one in my opinion is their best work so far, from animation to music to overall character interaction to storyline) and I saw a movie poster advert for "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory".

Normally, I don't get too upset at movie remakes because sometime they are good but this had Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka and for me this was blasphemy.
To compare a comedian like Gene Wilder whose performance I don't think anyone could top because for one he could sing, act, and seem like he was serious when he really was not, et cetera.

Hollywood has hit a new low by remaking this film that even my little sister has seen with Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka, for me this is blasphemy and one remake I will not see, because for me Gene Wilder is Willy Wonka and even on the Wonka Candy there is a likeness of Gene Wilder...because Gene Wilder made that role famous around the world.

What do you think?

Over the past few years, I've heard the rumors of who would play Willy Wanka in the remake. I like Johnny Depp, and I can sorta see him play the character, but hollyhood has to stop with the damn remakes. Its making me sick. I don't think I'm going to see the movie anyway. But if they used Christopher Walken, then I would have maybe thought about seeing the movie.

I like Johnny Depp. He can do it.

I agree with da face, though . . . we need to quit it with the remakes. It's almost as if Hollywood (and the music industry) has completely run out of original thought.

I agree that there are far too many remakes, but who knows, Johnny Depp might make a great Willy Wonka.

I am a firm believer that only BAD movies should be remade.
If it was a classic it should be left alone. Like the sages say “if it ain't broke don't fix it"
However I recently saw Finding Neverland and Johnny Depp was fabulous. He did a really amazing performance. Him being cast as the new "Willy' will be interesting. I think that he has the capability of pulling it off.
No one could ever top Gene Wilders Rendition of "Willy", that's a given, but I think that Johnny is a smart enough man and enough of a talented actor to know that. I don't think he will try to Re-do what has already been done so well. He will do his own spin on it.
What will be fun will be seeing the way he portrays Willy. I trust he will do a great job.

Though they may have changed it the title, they also have done something out of the ordinary with it.
It is not a musical and it is directed by Tim Burton (though if they were going for the darker route I wish they had got Todd McFarlane involved).
Cutting the musical part out the movie will be the only saving grace for Johhny Depp.

Excuse me while I whip this out!!

Though Alan Cumming, Robin Williams, or Christopher Walken would have been a better choice for this uncalled for remake.

Little kids still watch the original!!

Robin Williams

You mean a hyperactive ape would be better than Johnny Depp? No way!
