'Nothing is true.' - Key Tenet of the Chaos Magick System
Published on October 10, 2004 By Grim Xiozan In Religion
I will post the values Phil Hine brought up but the summaries of each is my own, after all if you want to learn more you can buy his book 'Condensed Chaos: an Introduction to Chaos Magic' which is an awesome precursor book to Peter J. Carroll's Liber Null.

Now Phil Hine did state that these are not universal axioms for Chaos Magick and that the individual is free to swap them around.

This is part of introductory series I will try to do for various forms of occult magick, but my main focus will be on my personal system or systems I use. So without further delay I will get to...

The Six Core Values as Proposed by Phil Hine

1. The Avoidance of Dogmatism
A Chaos Magician must labor to not fall into any dogmatism (unless of course it is part of temporary belief system for an experiment). Chaos Magicians must feel free to change their minds, contradict themselves and to bring up arguments that either plausible or implausible.

2. Personal Experience is paramount
When working experiments, don't take my word or anybody else's words that such and such theory is true, check it out yourself. The field of magick is already filled to the brim with 'armchair gurus' who will say this is because of such and such but in reality have no clue. Check everything out yourself take nobody's word but your own word on theories.

3. Technical Excellence
Many see Chaos Magick as a magick to do whatever you want but it does not support sloppiness. After all if you are going to perform or get involved with Chaos Magick why not do it to the best of your ability. Chaos Magick advocates rigorous self-assessment, so don't be sloppy utilise some technical excellence.

4. Deconditioning
The Chaos model stresses that a primary task of Chaos Magickians is to decondition themself from the mesh of beliefs, attitudes and fictions about self, society, and the world. This can be accomplished by doing deconditioning exercises. This is to facilitate the transition between beliefs and ego-fictions to other forms, in other words make it easier to discard or change one's beliefs or ego-fictions as one so pleases for an experiment.

5. Diverse Approaches
Whatever approach you desire can be utilized in Chaos Magick, take whatever systems you want to use from TV, Books, etc.

6. Gnosis
Gnosis is the ability to enter altered states of consciousness at will; this is a key to magickal ability.

So that is it, I, myself, agree with his 6 Core values which are all based on Chaos Magick Theory because they are values drawn from the core of what Chaos Magick is.

That is it for me.

First link I didn't know about, thanks.
Second link was already on my front page, only those who have never dealt with old Grimiores may have never heard of Twilit Grotto.
Though my path in Chaos will be tied to my Necromancer background also combined with some elements of Hermetic Kabbalah.
I also have some more links on my blog page.

Thanks again for the first link and info.

Oh by the way have you ever heard of the 'Vortex Rite' and know what book it was in? Was it useful?
